*Based on previous experience with reportable diseases, cases with unknown hospitalization status are more likely to be mild cases.
**Hospitalization status refers to whether cases were ever hospitalized, not current hospitalization status.

Hover over the map or view the data table below for a town’s exact count or rate of COVID-19 cases. Counts smaller than 5 are presented as a range to protect confidentiality; rates are censored and will appear as 'NA'. Areas labeled 'NA' for both counts and rates represent either towns with no cases, or unincorporated areas of Cook County with no residents. For towns that cross county lines, only data for the portion in Cook County is displayed.

Health departments have robust surveillance systems in place for tracking influenza-like illness, or ILI, that are used to monitor seasonal influenza epidemics every fall and winter. The definition of ILI is typically fever plus a cough or sore throat. Because these symptoms are similar to those of COVID-19, traditional ILI surveillance metrics might give an idea of how COVID-19 is affecting our community. Currently, visits to emergency departments are high for this time of year. Deaths associated with pneumonia/influenza are also high. However, the percent of laboratory specimens testing positive for flu has dropped dramatically. This pattern suggests influenza-like illness in our community is currently being caused by other respiratory viruses, such as SARS-CoV2.

Includes mortality data for all residents of Cook County, including Chicago. Additional information on data sources can be found in our influenza application.

Includes aggregate data from our influenza sentinel laboratories. Data may include residents outside of suburban Cook. Additional information on data sources can be found in our influenza application.
